Components
of a Great First Impression
|
Distractions
and Detractors
|
| |
|
·
Wear the "Uniform" of Your Profession.
It will make you appear competent even before you have
an opportunity to speak. If you are unsure of what would
be most appropriate for a particular environment ask your
recruiter for their observation. |
·
Inappropriate Attire. Whether it is too casual or too
dressy will make you look like an "outsider."
Ask your recruiter for their input. |
| |
|
| ·
Good Eye Contact. Conveys self confidence and enthusiasm. |
·
Averted Gaze/Excessive Blinking. Will send a message
that you are uncomfortable.
|
| |
|
| ·
Firm Handshake. Neither too firm or too weak. If possible
match the "tone" of the other handshake. |
·
Weak or Crushing Handshake. Will make you appear lacking
in self confidence.
|
| |
|
| ·
Friendly Tone of Voice. Again try to match the "tone"
of the interviewer. Modulate your volume and rhythm to
harmonize with the interviewer. |
·
Too Loud or Too Soft. Will distract from what you are
saying and keep you from being "heard".
|
| |
|
| ·
Smile. A warm smile cannot be over-emphasized in making
a great first impression. There is no need to grin or
overdo it, but a genuine smile is absolutely necessary
for success! |
·
Lack of Expression. Will most likely be viewed as "lack
of interest."
